The perfect beauty salon?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: paul mitchell beauty school

I'm attending Paul Mitchell beauty school in STL. As soon as I get out, I plan on taking a few business management classes and then opening my own salon. I'm sick of all of the "basement" salons and really want an awesome, unique salon. I need help picking a theme. I want it to be a place where kids can go and have fun but also be a professional environment. What do you guys wish you could see more at at your salon?

I would suggest getting some experience before opening your own place. Work at several different salons to find out their good and bad points. I posted a lengthy reply to one of your other questions that answers this inquiry. I think it will be a challenge to mix kids (I'm guessing you mean younger than 18) in with adults. The only salons that I know of that do that well have 2 shop next to each other. One adult salon and one for kids. It is great that you wish to do both but kids cuts are tough to make money on. A concept that would be new might be to offer true daycare and cuts for kids while the mom's get pampered. My concern would be staffing and regulations for having a daycare/babysitting service? Good Luck

Definitely knowledge of all hair styles. I want the person doing my hair to know what I'm talking about. I think it would be great if every stylist made a portfolio of different hairstyles and then the customer could look through them and choose the most similar and then work from there. If the stylist is shown something new, they should add it to the portfolio.

Mental images are good, but this would help a lot.

Also simply being good at cutting, coloring, etc…

but why would you hire them if they weren't? lol
